Southwest points sale delivers 2–4 cents per point through mid-2027

Southwest Rapid Rewards just ran a points sale offering redemption values well above the usual floor. You can score 2 to 4 cents per point on flights through mid-2027, compared to the standard 1.25 cents. A Phoenix-to-Las Vegas example: 3,000 points for a $136 cash ticket.

Why it matters: If you've accumulated Southwest points and weren't sure when to use them, this sale justifies holding them—or spending them now if you have near-term travel plans that fit the sweet spot.

TPD take: This is a cyclical pattern with Southwest. The timing and availability window matter; check if your intended route qualifies before committing points.

Cathay Pacific round-trip to Philippines for $870 all-in

Cathay Pacific is selling San Francisco to Angeles, Philippines for $870 round-trip, including taxes. Angeles is the smaller airport serving the Manila area. Travel windows: November, mid-January 2027, or late February through early March 2027. Expect a 7-day advance purchase requirement and limited inventory.

Why it matters: Full-service carrier pricing to an Asia-Pacific destination at this level is rare, and the secondary airport often means less congestion than Ninoy Aquino International.

TPD take: Solid cash value for a long-haul redemption if the dates work. The routing to a secondary airport is a feature, not a bug.

Alaska miles to Colombia from 7,500 points

American Airlines flights to Colombia are pricing at 7,500 Alaska miles in economy or 15,000 in business from Miami. Medellín carries that base rate; Bogotá runs 12,500 / 25,000; Cartagena is also included. Availability spans September 2026 through June 2027, and taxes are minimal.

Why it matters: These are entry-level award prices for South America on a major airline. For non-Miami residents, the points cost is low enough that positioning on a separate ticket can still undercut booking from your home airport.

TPD take: Wide open availability is the real win here. Book soon, but this pricing has runway.

Park Hyatt Maldives Beach Villas from 25,000 Hyatt points

The Park Hyatt Maldives is showing broad award availability from September 2026 through September 2027 at 25,000 Hyatt points per night for 1,775-square-foot Beach Villas. Cash rates typically exceed $1,000 per night. The 25,000-point rate applies September–November 2026 and May–September 2027; other nights chart higher under Hyatt's variable pricing. Only standard villas are available for points bookings at this time.

Why it matters: The property has just 51 villas total, so award space is almost always scarce. Open inventory at the entry-level rate is uncommon.

TPD take: Book fast if this window matches your calendar. Suites aren't open for points redemptions yet, and rates will tier up outside the stated sweet spots.

Google's AI mode now searches award pricing

Google's AI Mode can now search award flight and hotel redemptions for select programs: American AAdvantage, Hilton Honors, and Flying Blue are live. You ask the chat for points pricing on a route or property and get a number back. Notable gaps: Delta, United, Marriott, and Canada's big three (Aeroplan, Air Canada, WestJet). Google plans to add Hyatt, Lufthansa, and others soon. The feature is live everywhere except the European Economic Area.

Why it matters: Removes friction from quick award research. You're not mining each program's portal separately.

TPD take: Useful starting point, but not a replacement for checking your actual account for real-time seat maps and fuel surcharges. Use it to spot opportunities, then verify in the program portal.

Steal of the Day: Bilt to Virgin Atlantic with up to 100% transfer bonus

Bilt is running a transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic effective tomorrow, September 1st. The bonus tops out at 100% for Platinum members who buy $200 in Bilt Cash; Blue members start at 25%. Most cardholders will fall between those markers depending on tier.

Why it matters: A 100% bonus is rare and front-loads points value if you have a Virgin booking ready.

TPD take: Check your Bilt account status before tomorrow and only do the Bilt Cash buy-up if you have a specific Virgin redemption mapped. The math has to work first.

Card of the Day: Amex Platinum elevated referral bonuses

Some American Express Platinum cardholders are seeing targeted elevated referral bonuses: up to 45,000 Membership Rewards points per approved referral, well above the standard 10,000–15,000 range.

Why it matters: Meaningful upside if you're in the targeted group and know someone ready to apply.

TPD take: Log in and check your account. These offers are not universal. If you have it and a referral candidate is pre-qualified, the extra 30,000+ points is worth the introduction.
